About
A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Professor Walter Rucker has authored articles appearing in the Journal of Black Studies, the Journal of Negro History, The Black Scholar, Afro-Americans in New York Life and History, and the Negro Educational Review.
His books include "The River Flows On": Black Resistance, Culture, and Identity Formation in Early America (Baton Rouge: LSU Press, 2005), a two-volume work, co-edited with Jim Upton, entitled The Encyclopedia of American Race Riots (Westport, CT.: Greenwood Press, 2006), and a three-volume work, co-edited with Leslie Alexander, entitled The Encyclopedia of African American History (Santa Barbara: ABC-CLIO, 2010). Professor Rucker is currently working on a book-length treatment which will focus on Diasporic culture, community, and identity formation.
Over the past decade, he has taught a range of courses including Atlantic World Slavery; Slave Culture & Resistance in the U.S.; Culture, Society, and History in West Africa; Topics in African Diaspora Studies; and the Comparative History of the African Diaspora.
